The Great Rift Valley

The Great Rift Valley runs across the country from the Lake Turkana in the north, considered by many as the cradle of humankind, to the soda flats and hot springs of Lake Magadi in the south. The valley is bordered by high escarpments on its eastern and western sides, and filled with a series of lakes – the more popular for visitors include Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita, and Lake Naivasha – and the many volcanos, some of which are active, and others which can be climbed such as Menengai and Mount Longonot. The scale of the Rift is immense, the views unending.
