Rwanda is one of very few countries where mountain gorillas can be approached safely. The gorillas are found in the Volcanoes National Park, which is a scenic 90km drive from Kigali. A gorilla visit will entail anything from a 1-to 4-hour trek through the forest, led by experienced trackers. who have spent their entire lives living in or close to the forest, and they brief you on how to behave near to the gorillas. Your guides are also experts on all the fora and fauna of the mountain forests. But the high point, of course, and one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth, will be spending an hour with the gentle giant gorillas as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting, and raising their young.
